Background

As part of the University Innovation Fellows program, I received training in Design Thinking by the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford. During the fellowship, I planned and facilitated workshops as well as coached students who started the Design Thinking training.

We are usually working with participants who are new to Design Thinking. Therefore, we first give them an explanation about the process. Depending on the available time and goal of the workshop, we either guide them through all 5 stages or only part of it. During all workshops, we include stokes to set the mood or energize the participants.

Dutch Honours Community Workshop

The Dutch Honours Community is a national collective for and by Honours students in the Netherlands. We were asked to give a workshop on Design Thinking to a group of around 20 Honours students. Together, we planned and executed the workshop.

Students were new to this way of thinking and happy to get introduced to it. We also received the feedback that students enjoyed the relaxed but fun atmosphere.

Future Envisioning Workshop

When talking to students on our campus, we noticed that many were struggling with uncertainties around graduating. They often told us that it was difficult to find out which career to choose and what they want to do with their life.

Therefore, we developed a Future Envisioning Workshop to help students imagine their future self and set goals. Our goal was to help them deal with the anxiety around graduating and job searching. Together with two other fellows, we planned and facilitated a Future Envisioning Workshop. We introduced the participants to future envisioning and guided them in formulating their SMART goals.

A few months after the workshop, we received the feedback that our workshop helped them in finding internships and gaining clarity about where they want to go in the future.

Design Thinking for Product Development Workshop

Fellows from Sophia University in Japan were organising an online Design Thinking workshop for a product development class. I co-facilitated by guiding one of the groups through the different stages of Design Thinking.
